Biography

Abandin All Hope, have clearly never won a spelling bee. But, in their 5 year history have managed to accomplish many other feats. Abandin All Hope has released so much music that it's nearly impossible to keep track. 2003 saw the releases of two 6 song demo's cleverly titled Demo 1 and 2. "Standing room only" a 9 song E.P and finished the year off with "A Lighter Shade Of Grey" which featured 8 new tracks. In 2004, They wrote a 24 song full legnth entitled "My Friends Are Dead", Follwed by 2005's two 5 song E.P's "Hail Gingerale" and "Blessed With Injury" both of which became part of "Call It Self-Titled" a 43 song culmination of previous works and unreleased matirial. In 2006 they recorded "An Excuse To Ramble" 13 songs which would later be mixed and mastered by Chad Blinman. and re-recorded "My Friends Are Dead" to be mixed and mastered by Dan Precision. And Finally, in the fall of 2007 the boys recorded a 15 song full legnth which is yet to be titled.

During thier time together, they have logged thousands of miles, touring in concentric circles and building a solid fan base around western Canada. Over the years Abandin All Hope have been fortunate enough to share the stage with many of their favorite bands: A Wilhelm Scream, The Sainte Catherines, Allister, This Is A Standoff, Down The Hatch, The Johnsons and many more. Abandin's live show is about as tight as a buzzards **** in a powerdive, and the three part harmonies and group chants always seem to bring out the best in their performances.

With a blend of skate/pop/punk and hornless ska Abandin All Hope has created a sound that is truly unique, Combining aspects such as the sarcacity of Diesel Boy, The Humour of the Vandals. The melodicness of MXPX and No Use For A Name, then add a touch of ska compliments of Less Than Jake you should be fairly close to the sound. Staying away from traditional lyric's of romance and heartbreak they sing about everything from their favorite soft drinks, college life, moving out, music and playing in a band. It seems Abandin All Hope will never run short on topics to sing about.

2008 is already promising to be a great year for Abandin All Hope, with all the previous groundwork layed and a new album on the way the boys are taking it to the masses. They are in the process of shopping labels, and booking tours and all the wonderful things that go along with both. Check out the music and stop by the website, you're sure not to be dissapointed.

An Excuse To Ramble

Don’t let the punny moniker throw you—Fort Mac’s Abandin All Hope have put together an album that expresses a unique perspective of life in the shadow of the Alberta Advantage. With wit and originality, the songs of An Excuse to Ramble explore familiar elements of the 20-something zeitgeist without resorting to emo self-pity. Rather, they lampoon such everyman experiences as college life ("Dorm Phase"), leaving home ("Another Year") and driving an affordable old jalopy ("Cavalier").

Although this album contains the perfunctory party anthems ("Giddy Up" and "Camping Rules"), AAH is at its best when casting vignettes of pop-culture. I mean, who hasn’t shared the frustration of dying at the same annoying stage in a videogame ("Where I Died")? But don’t expect Knopfler-esque lingering guitar or a Death Cab pause-for-angst. AAH’s music is upbeat, fast paced pop-punk, mixing rapid guitar work and clear vocals with a heavy drum beat. Thirteen tracks, no waiting. Non lasciate ogni speranza, kids! The doorway to the inferno never sounded so utterly punkworthy.

My Friends Are Dead

Think Good Riddance meets The Offspring….add some ska musings….now a touch of Miami Sound Machine’s infamous tongue twisting hyperspeed lyrical skills ala ‘Conga’ (that meant nothing to anyone born after 1991)….add a mispelt band name and you have Abandin All Hope (that’s abandon with an i!) - or something similar.

John Holmstrom of Punk magazine once described punk music as having evolved due to a bunch of talentless kids who wanted to say something but couldn’t play instruments so they decided to play anyway. Hence we have the traditional hardcore punk being nothing more than screaming and a couple of guitar riffs over and over and over….well you get the idea. Although Abandin All Hope does keep to the agressive style and the original "shorter than 3 minutes" punk rules (at least on this album), they do have talent.

The album "My Friends Are Dead" begins with a bassline reminiscent of Social Code’s ‘Whisper To A Scream’….oh how wrong we are. This album mingles hardcore riffs with entertaining and witty lyrics. It is a (whisper to a) scream from beginning to end….highly relatable for any 20-something who have found themselves…..ok let’s leave that line there.

From ‘Naptime’ to ‘Snuffle’ the boys will have you smiling. At face value this album may look to be about drunken debauchery and one’s favourite bevvies; in a more enlightened or "enlightened" state it focuses the life issues that we face everyday…and have you hankering for gingerale! In the end Abandin All Hope has produced an amusingly insulting album about friendship, inspiration and how terrible it must be to hail from Newfoundland!
